Formed more than 50 years ago, the Colonie Town Band is a community band composed of an intergenerational group of dedicated amateur musicians ranging from teenagers to octogenarians. No auditions are required to join; new members are always welcome.
Jane Oppenlander, PhD
A member of the Colonie Town Band since 1982, Jane first offered her talents as a musician, then as assistant director, and since 2015, as the band's full-time conductor. She is associate professor / chair of Bioethics at Clarkson University.
Barbara Deegan
Barbara taught music in Missouri for 26 years. She also performed with and conducted the Mountain Home Symphony, a volunteer orchestra in Mountain Home, Arkansas (1992-2012) and created the Ozark String Project in Ava, Missouri. She joined the band in 2022.
The Band is composed of a notable assortment of ages and backgrounds. Teenagers, working adults, and retired individuals all contribute to the fun and entertainment of lifelong music. Currently, there are more than 50 musicians who perform free concerts.
